There couldn’t be a better time to introduce a new Blog that focuses on the plight and the opportunities facing young urban men. The recent announcement from the White House, highlighting the “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative, signals a new awareness and URGENCY for those of us working on behalf of young men being raised in Single-Parent homes… 85% of boys in urban America. The “Man of the House” Mentoring philosophy is about (1) Hands-On work skills for all Middle School boys; (2) Civil Rights History from 1954 to 2014; and (3) Personal Development through the study of “Proverbs” and the teachings of “Confucius”. Every church, sorority, fraternity, alumni association, and especially every major national African American organization must embrace and be serious about Vocational skills and Vocational Literacy for these young men.
