“Man of the House” Mentoring has embarked on the next phase of the “Birmingham Crusade: Memphis Mission”. Last year, June 2013, we chaperoned 100 young men from Memphis to the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, and conducted hands-on skills in the basement of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church. The Birmingham trip was in celebration of the 5th Annual “Man of the House” Mentoring Event, held on Father’s Day Saturday each year at the National Civil Rights Museum. Odd number years will be spent in Birmingham, with even numbered years spent in Memphis. In June 2018, we will have a major celebration commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the April 4th assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The world will pause to reflect on the past fifty years of African American progress (or the lack thereof), and we intend to have Fellowship with 500 young men who have learned their history, learned to use tools, and learned how to conduct themselves as if they really were the “man of the house”… *Stay tuned as well, to the “back-to-basics” initiatives that we are pioneering in Memphis and Shelby County.
